Chelsea Stone's Pattern of Domestic Abuse and Attempts to Kill Husband
Evidence in the files provided for the order for protection--including audio recordings and transcripts, photos of injuries, her now ex-spouse's notes and testimony, text messages/screenshots, and the February 2022 Minnesota court Order for Protection (OFP) in Hennepin County case 27-DA-FA-21-5838, in addition to other accounts—establishes a clear, documented pattern of Chelsea Marie Stone engaging in repeated physical domestic abuse, emotional/verbal terror, financial exploitation, and credible threats to kill both herself and her husband. The court explicitly found that Chelsea committed domestic abuse after an evidentiary hearing.
Verbal and Emotional Abuse
Recordings and transcripts from 2020 show Chelsea frequently launching into prolonged, screaming rants filled with profanity, accusations, and personal attacks. She repeatedly told her husband he was "dead inside," worthless, wanted her to "off" herself, and that she regretted not killing them both earlier. She accused him of failing to take her side on anything, often spiraling when he tried to de-escalate or stick to facts.
Her husband described these episodes as occurring multiple times per week, with Chelsea refusing to accept any disagreement and framing neutral or factual statements as betrayal. In one August 28, 2020 recording, she berated him extensively during a heated political discussion, while simultaneously threatening suicide.
Physical Abuse
Chelsea repeatedly hit, scratched, choked, and punched her husband:
- September 17, 2020: Chelsea punched him in the nose, ripped his shirt, and clawed his chest during an argument. Audio captured her immediately afterward laughing: "That was so... haha. How did I do that? Was there already a hole there?... I'm sorry." She later admitted hitting him and tearing the shirt. Photos document the injuries.
- September 7, 2020: Video shows Chelsea aggressively knocking his phone out of his hand and punching him.
- Other incidents involved scratching and choking, with photos showing visible injuries on her husband's neck, chest, and face.
She also attacked her husband while he was driving and threatened to crash the vehicle on multiple occasions, creating immediate life-threatening danger.
Routine Death Threats and Weapon Incidents
Chelsea made repeated, credible threats to kill her husband and/or herself, often while escalating physically:
- She routinely threatened her husband by saying "I'm going to fucking stab you." These threats sometimes slipped out accidentally in front of other people, shocking them; she would then attempt to laugh it off.
- In July 2020, during an argument, Chelsea accessed a gun, knelt on the bed with it in front of her, and, when she noticed him in the hallway, attempted to bring it to bear. Her husband managed to wrestle it away before anyone was shot. While it was loaded, there was not a round in the chamber, giving him a chance.
- On August 28, 2020 (recorded), Chelsea told her parents she had threatened to kill her husband because "he doesn't listen to her." She explicitly discussed suicide methods, stated she would rather die than live with him, and referenced the gun incident. Her parents expressed alarm.
The court credited the husband's testimony on these threats and the gun incident as meeting the statutory definition of domestic abuse (including fear of imminent physical harm and terroristic threats).
Post-Separation Harassment, Stalking, and Continued Threats
After separation, Chelsea:
- Showed up unannounced at her husband's home, pounded on doors/windows while he worked, drove a car through the yard, yelled at his cat, and engaged in other disruptive behavior with her sister.
- Hijacked accounts, charged thousands to her husband's accounts (on which she was not authorized) even after separation, stole many of her husband's personal gifts and premarital assets.
- Continued threats, including references to breaking in ("nothing you could do about it"), damaging his car, and suicide threats to manipulate the divorce.
- Her husband filed police reports for these incidents and an attempted break-in.
Chelsea dragged out the divorce with incomplete discovery, rejected settlements she herself proposed, and harassed him via lawyers and in person despite his attempts to disengage.
Court Findings and OFP
On February 7, 2022, after hearing testimony from both parties and Chelsea's sister, a judge issued a two-year Order for Protection against Chelsea. Key findings:
- Domestic abuse occurred (physical harm, fear of imminent harm, terroristic threats).
- Her husband's testimony and exhibits (photos, audio/transcripts) were credible.
- Chelsea's testimony was deemed "less credible".
- The order prohibited contact, entry to husband's home/work, and firearm possession by Chelsea.
Summary
Chelsea was the primary aggressor and abuser: a pattern of explosive verbal tirades, repeated physical assaults causing injury (including while driving), routine stabbing threats, credible death threats combined with access to a firearm, financial abuse, and ongoing harassment post-separation intended to punish and control her husband. Her actions created a climate of fear, as he documented repeatedly fearing for his life and taking steps (changing locks, calling police, seeking OFP) to protect himself.
